Tips to Thwart a Rapist. Are You F**king Kidding Me?

Recently the University of Colorado released some tips to avoid being raped. You’ve probably heard about this, but I was so pissed off by it that I had to cover it.

The university, which does not allow “weapons” like pocket knives, guns, any kind of metal knuckles oh and sling shots, suggests that women react passively to attackers and of course try to run away. Obviously if you can get away and run that’s the best bet. However, the most appalling suggestion made in this list was that a girl tell the attacker she has a disease or is on her period.  Right, because that’s going to stop a sick nutjob? And seriously tell him you have a disease? If some dude has just grabbed me and is intent on raping me I doubt my first reaction is going to be to yell “I am on my period!” or “I have the herp!!” Come on people.
I think worse and more degrading than suggesting women say they are on their period to avoid rape is the suggestion to vomit or urinate on an attacker.

I don’t know about you but I can’t just vomit or pee on command. I am a woman not an animal capable of defecating myself when I am scared. Do these people really think that we can just vomit on cue? Unless I’ve been chomping down sweets and then decide to run a marathon before getting cornered by a rapist, I doubt I am gonna be able to vomit on him.
What gets me about this shit(and excuse my use of expletives but I am just so disgusted by this whole thing) is that there is always this push for empowerment and independence for women in our world today I’d really like to know how those tips factor into empowerment.

Why don’t we teach women how to actually protect themselves? Teach them how to fend off an attacker with basic skills and even with *gasp* guns. I think the likelihood of a potential rapist running off scared from me pulling out a handgun is greater than him running off when I scream I am on my period while stimulatingly trying to piss myself and vomit.
I dunno, what makes you feel safer girls?
Vomit or a bullet and some hand to hand defense training?

After some serious backlash the university did remove their “tips” and replaced it with this http://www.uccs.edu/pusafety/what-to-do-if-you-are-attacked-.html and apologized, but not specifically for suggesting we piss ourselves on command to avoid rape.

Smart Meters: Stupid For Our Health and Privacy.

There has recently been a lot of controversy over the subject of smart meters. Concerns that they cause health issues like headaches, anxiety and even cancer are causing quite the stir. So what is a smart meter? A “smart meter” is really an advanced meter that gathers your energy usage and sends it wirelessly to the utility company. Usually by means of updated gird systems, and hub centers. Here in Michigan DTE is calling these grids “SmartCurrents”. Much like I noted in my post on Vehicle Mileage Taxes and using a GPS to track your driving offering navigation services and other services to drivers, Smart Meters are being purported to be beneficial as well. They help you to better monitor your electrical usage and will supposedly lead to lower energy bills. That’s what the energy companies and supporters of Smart Meters say anyway.
Smart Meters are being pushed as “green” however if you think about the amount of work it takes to change out entire communities from older model meters to these smart meters or the technology that goes into making them, they are really not all that green. Plus, I don’t know about you but I don’t think microwave radiation is green. Don’t tell that to any of the companies supporting and pushing their new advanced metering and mesh networks though.

There is plenty of evidence out there to support the conclusion that smart meters put out a toxic and high levels of microwave radiation. Just a quick search on Google turns up tons of websites discussing the effects of radio frequencies and smart meters on health. The World Health Organization has classified RFs as a carcinogen and the high EMF (electromagnetic fields) that these meters put out are also known to cause a range of health issues like, anxiety, headaches, insomnia, memory loss, confusion, mood swings.

Beyond the controversy over whether or not microwave radiation from smart meters is good, bad or indifferent to our health there is the issue of privacy. Just like the Vehicle Mileage Taxes and the government wanting to track where we drive, smart meters have their own privacy invading, big brother is watching agenda. Your smart meter can tap into the radio frequency of new “smart appliances”. That’s right, pretty soon your stove will be able to talk to the electrical grid and to other appliances in your house. The idea is that since smart meters are suppose to track peak energy usage times(and up the price you pay for energy during those times of day) smart appliances would be able to talk to the gird and each other in order to “save you money”. Your stove for instance, can tell the fridge to lower its temperature until dinner is done cooking.

In an article on Grist, Colorado based grid set up company Tendril CEO Adrian Truck said  “When consumers buy a new fridge they’ll make a phone call or go online and register their new appliance with the grid,” says Tendril’s Tuck. “If they do that, the appliance will start to receive pricing information and download algorithms to modify its behavior.” Whoa! I am sorry but I don’t like the idea of my refrigerator downloading anything. The thought of appliances being linked into this new mesh network and communicating with each other sounds pretty freaky if you ask me.

Now of course the people supporting this whole thing will tell you they’ll never use the information gathered through smart meters against you. They aren't going to monitor you. Why on earth would they do that? Frankly I think, just with having a GPS in my car that tracks where I drive, having meters that can communicate with my appliances and send information about my energy usage through a wireless grid is not only creepy but an invasion of privacy. The controversy is endless, so I urge you to research it yourself and come to your own conclusion on smart meters and whether or not you want one on your home. That is if you can stop them.

Billions of rounds of ammunition

Billions of rounds of ammunition
Lately the Government has been buying up a lot of ammunition. This by itself raises eyebrows of many but a closer look at the facts raises a lot of questions. Center stage for the purchase of ammunition in this story is the department of homeland security. Over the last 10 months they have purchased or made contracts with manufactures to obtain over 1.625 billion rounds of various ammunition.

However they are not the only government agency to buy up large quantities of ammo. The national Weather service has purchased 46,000 rounds of hallow point ammunition. The NWS is tasked with providing forecasts, public warnings, and other products to organizations and the public for the purposes of protection, safety, and general information. Why do they need firearms and all that ammo to do their job?

The Social security administration has ordered 174,000 .357 magnum rounds. When questioned why they needed such an order it was claimed to be a clerical error and the order was for NOAA’s Fisheries office of law enforcement. They are responsible for the ecosystem protection and conservation of most of national marine life.

That’s a lot of ammunition in retro spec a average combat infantry company is composed of three to five platoons to form a company. A platoon consists of 16 to 44 soldiers comprising of four squads. The Military unit I was part of years ago was made up of five platoons to a company, 25 men to a platoon. This made our company 125 men strong. Average ammo we carried into battle varied on our mission. But the average was 3500 per platoon. This averaged out to 17,500 per company. This is not counting grenades, rockets or other forms of munitions, just small arms. So using this figure of 17,500 as a rough guesstimate DHS has purchased enough ammo to outfit almost 10,000 infantry companies. That’s a lot of men and firepower. At the height of operations in Iraq U.S. Soldiers used 5.5 million rounds of ammunition a month. So DHS has purchased enough ammo to wage an Iraq style campaign for 30 years.

So that begs the question of why do they need so much so soon? Is DHS getting ready for war? And if so with who? As more people have asked more probing questions of DHS they responded by classifying information pertaining to ammunition purchases. Why are they so worried about the public knowing how much ammo they are purchasing now that the cat is out of the bag?

Combine this with the fact that a study that was funded by DHS was leaked last year where they characterize Americans who are suspicious of the federal government and are reverent of individual liberty are labeled as right wing terrorists. So In a nutshell they are labeling a lot of Americans as terrorists. DHS mandate is to protect the U.S.A. from terrorism and or responding to terrorist acts. But now they are calling American citizens terrorists for their views. Is this the first step toward thought police?

Draw your own conclusions based on the facts, use some reason and logic. But if you love your freedoms and don’t think they make you a terrorist then speak out. Your silence is their power.

For myself I can say this, this is not the country I grew up in. I want my old nation back where my freedoms and belief in them as unquestionable didn’t make me a terrorist, it made me an American proud of my nation.

Celebrity Status

Why is it every time something happens politically, Celebrities think it is their duty to come out and make commercials and stand on their soap boxes touting what they think we should do,  as though their opinions matter more than ours.
I see videos like this and I cringe a little.

Who are they to tell us what to do? I am sick of celebrities hiding behind body guards, the bars of their gated communities, creating videos and attending speaking events to tell us, like we are their little peasants, that we should call for gun control laws, or whatever political agenda they are serving at the time. The worst part about it is we let them get away with it, we let them make their heartwarming PSA videos telling us that Obama is like our daddy and we should trust that everything he does is right, as Chris Rock did recently.

Yet, when an actor like Bruce Willis comes out and says he does not support the gun bans or anything that would infringe on constitutional rights, you hardly hear about it. He doesn’t make a little video, he just says it. In an interview with the Associated Press Willis said ''If you take one out or change one law, then why wouldn't they take all your rights away from you?" He’s right you know?
Why don’t pro gun celebrities make videos calling for action? Why don’t they do speaking events? Probably because they aren’t little tools of the government and wouldn’t get any attention except to be called radicals if they did speak out.

Well, this is my call to action everyone. Here’s a list from the Gun Owners of America of all the singers and actors who support gun control. Let’s boycott them and put our support behind the artists who believe we should have our freedoms.

And here are some artists we should be supporting (can I just say, good job Chef Alton Brown!)

This one has some strong language so be forewarned!

Attack on The Second Amendment

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The current gun legislation going on right now in Washington should have many people in America concerned. These people namely Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Sen. Charles E. Schumer and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton are pushing their own private agenda despite the facts that legal gun ownership reduces crime. A quick look at the statistics provided by the FBI is the clearest sign that responsible gun owners in America are having a positive effect.
In 2005 murders commented with a rifle were 445. In contrast the number of murders committed with hammers and clubs were 605. In 2006 murders commented with a rifle were 438. The number of Murders committed with hammers and clubs went up to 618. As we go on from year to year the number of murders committed by rifles continues to drop and blunt objects like hammers keeps going up. So if the people in Washington were truly concerned about your well being and health don’t you think they would pass laws against hammers and clubs?
Maybe a 5 day waiting period on that hammer you want to get at the hardware store.
Back to the facts, at the head of this gun legislation is Sen. Dianne Feinstein. She has headed numerous attacks on the second amendment before. Her original gun ban, which existed from 1994 until 2004, was not renewed by Congress after law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, testified it was ineffective in cutting crime. So, the FBI said it doesn’t work and the national statistics support that but they continue to push this agenda.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s new bill would ban 157 specific “assault weapons and ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.” The criteria of the “assault weapons” they propose to ban is the same as the 1994 ban. Clearly Sen. Dian Feinstein hates personal gun ownership in America and is determined to change it regardless of the facts.
This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes.

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
-Albert Einstein

Recently I had a disagreement with a coworker about what the second amendment means. He was certain it had something to do with hunting or a well armed military. When I informed him that the Supreme Court of the United States first ruled in 2008 that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess and carry firearms, he was certain I was wrong. I also explained to him that the Supreme Court issued two landmark decisions officially establishing this interpretation. District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), the Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home within many longstanding prohibitions and restrictions on firearms possession listed by the Court as being consistent with the Second Amendment. In McDonald v. Chicago, 561 U.S. 3025 (2010), the Court ruled that the Second Amendment limits state and local governments to the same extent that it limits the federal government. After hearing this he told me that I was making this all up and he walked away. This kind of Ignorance is what people like Sen. Dian Feinstein are counting on. They use these crimes like the Sandy Hook shooting to further their agenda and claim it’s about protecting people but when compared to the cold hard facts their arguments fall short.

Surprisingly a number of Sheriffs and serving military around the country have publicly said if they will not enforce the gun ban if passed into law. This is great news for freedom loving Americans everywhere. Go over to http://oathkeepers.org/oath/ and take a look, it will put a smile on your face. Also some states like Texas are pushing a bill called The Second Amendment Protection Act, that if passed into law will create a precedent for other states to follow.
While many patriots have said Molon Labe to the people in Washington our true strength is to organize and kill this before it becomes law. Call your congressman and tell them how much you hate gun control. Make a donation to the NRA or Gun Owners of America, after all they are at the forefront of this fight but most of all do not be silent and don’t sit back and let others fight this battle for you. Make some sacrifices and fight for your freedoms, or wear a slave collar and let others manage you from cradle to grave.

Vehicle Mileage Tax: Just another tax or one step closer to a closed in society?

I had never heard of a Driver User Fee, or vehicle mileage tax before until I found out through some friends who are politically active here in Michigan that our Governor was considering implementing such a tax on us. Apparently the .6% sales tax that we get slapped on top of our gas tax just isn't enough to cover the roads. Admittedly I was a little confused about what exactly a mileage tax was and how exactly the government would go keep track of the miles I drive and the roads I drive on. Naïve of me, I know.
A vehicle mileage tax is just that, a tax on the miles you drive. This money supposedly goes to help maintain the roads. Seems legit right? I mean we use the roads and particularly here in Michigan the winter weather darn near destroys them every year! So what’s the big deal with paying a tax that will help keep the roads fixed up and make them safer?

The Rand Corporation, in their document “Mileage-based user fees for transportation funding. A primer for state and local decision makers” claims “the federal government and most states levy fuel taxes on a cents-per-gallon basis, so real revenues will inevitably decline unless the per-gallon tax rates are periodically increased to offset the effects of both inflation and improved fuel economy” and with the subject of gas price increases being a touchy one, most state and government officials rarely want to go there. Rand Corporation also points out that with the increase in fuel economic and alternative fuel cars the issues related to per-gallon taxes will become more of an issue. That’s right, alternative fuel vehicles are taking money away from the roads.

I personally see a few issues with this. Obviously there is the issue of yet another tax but what bothers me most is at its heart, Vehicle Mileage Taxes seem like one more way for the government to monitor our every move and push us into a closed in society where we have practically no anonymity.
So how would a tax strip away our privacy? In order for the states to properly tax our mileage they would need to know how much we drive and on what roads (since the taxes may vary depending on what county or road you’re on). There are a few different ways states have been looking at regarding this. The favored one appearing to be a GPS mileage meter that is placed in the car somewhere(Is the Progressive Snap Shot coming to mind anyone?) and collects the data.

Minnesota recently, in conjunction with the Battelle Institute tested a way of monitoring mileage using cellphone towers. “The Global Positioning System (GPS) collected data via an in-vehicle smartphone, an Android-based app created by Battelle, and a Bluetooth vehicle ID module plugged into on-board diagnostics. A commercial cloud service hosted the data warehouse. For privacy, the solution saved anonymous location points and enabled auditing for a billing dispute only by the owner of the phone that collected the data. Battelle’s solution also provided drivers with value-added services of road sign display and support for third-party navigation apps.”  Seems the least they can give us in exchange for monitoring our every move is some fee navigation.  Other methods of tracking mileage would be simply estimating annual mileage on certain types of vehicles and of course occasional odometer inspections!

Now, once they have that tracking system in order how are they going to bill us? Once again there are several proposed ideas. Once again Minnesota has a great layout for this. The seemingly less invasive option is charging the fee with vehicle registration. Other options include invoicing to the GPS system (and let’s face it they’ll try to attach payment directly to our checking accounts if they can). Still sounding okay to you?

Back to the issue of privacy, first there’s the concern with being tracked everywhere you go. The use of a GPS system to monitor our mileage is just Big Brother bearing down on us more, but what if the systems were to get hacked? Fear not, they have a solution for that too. Why they’ll just delete your information as soon as you've paid your tax. Or better yet, how about they just do odometer inspections? I trust the Government and their concern for privacy about as much as I trust the guy on the corner who tells me the car radio he wants to sell me isn't stolen.

In my opinion this tax is a ploy to start bringing us closer to a closed in society. If you can’t afford to drive your car, you are confined to one area mostly and suddenly you become much easier to keep track of and to control. I am by no means denying our need to pay to keep the roads we use up, but this is not the way. It’s easy to go along with what the Government tells us. Particularly when in theory the ideas seem good, but technology and innovation aside take a moment to look at the whole picture and ask yourself why you’re okay with being tracked everywhere and how you feel about being charged another tax. Don’t be fooled by the promise of safer roads, ease and convenient ways to pay fees and “free” in car navigation services. Just because the frosting on the cake looks good doesn't mean the cake isn't poisoned.

Right now several states including, Washington State, Oregon, Nevada and Colorado are testing or considering testing out this new method of taxing drivers.
